FEBRUARY — The Heart of MWRA: Our Volunteers
Share
At the core of Mountain West Recreation Alliance is a simple truth: none of this happens without people willing to show up.
Our volunteers are the heartbeat of this work. They give their time, energy, and skills not because they’re asked to—but because they care deeply about the places they recreate, explore, and call home.
Volunteer work isn’t always glamorous. It’s early mornings, sore muscles, muddy boots, and long days that don’t always come with recognition. But behind every repaired trail, installed fence line, or protected area is a group of people who chose stewardship over convenience.
What I love most about our volunteer community is the diversity. People come from different backgrounds, experience levels, and reasons for getting involved. Some are lifelong outdoor enthusiasts. Others are brand new to public lands. What unites them is respect—for the land and for one another.
Volunteers don’t just complete projects. They become ambassadors. They carry stewardship values into their families, friend groups, and communities. They help normalize responsible recreation through action, not lectures.
To every volunteer who has shown up early, stayed late, lifted heavy things, asked thoughtful questions, or simply said “yes” when help was needed—thank you. This organization exists because of you.
If you’ve ever wondered whether one person can make a difference, this is your answer. Stewardship starts with showing up, and our volunteers prove that every single time.
